Since Day 1, and I mean “Bills, Bills, Bills” Day 1…Beyonce has been rocking some long blonde weaves. Whether as micro braids, long wavy locks or box braids…long hair don’t care has always been her MO. Which is why it was so refreshingly shocking to catch her with two new short cuts in the last week. She initially debuted a blonde pixie on Instagram and within a few days had added some extensions to create an angled bob. I am completely smitten y’all! Maybe it has a little to do with my 15 year long infatuation with the singer, dancer, actress, model and general superhero goddess woman, but do you agree that this cut completely fits her gorgeous oval face and gives her a more sophisticated air? I’m fighting the urge to be a complete STAN (stalker/fan) right now and head to the salon. I was considering going back ombre and keeping my locks long for winter, but Bey’s bold jump into the unknown is inspiring me to take a risk too! Check her out below!

While you’re perusing your favorite fashion and beauty blogs, your addictive gossip sites or even (gasp!) catching up on the latest world news, you may as well do it in audible style with the about-to-be hottest song on the airwaves. Check out Jay’s new collaboration with Mrs.Carter herself on “Part II (On the Run), a continuation of their story told in 2003’s “Bonnie & Clyde 03′”. I’m digging the smooth, old-school vibe and the vocals of both superstars. This is top-down music rightchere! Jay’s 12th solo studio album, Magna Carta Holy Grail was released to 1 million Samsung users today, complimentary.
Miley rocked this Versace dress on Saturday evening at the I Heart Radio Ultimate Pool Party, followed up by Kat on Sunday night’s BET Awards red carpet. There was a slight difference in the designs with Miley’s dress having a choker element and Kat’s being a simpler strappy V-neck line. Miley’s earrings and shoes were more subdued and her shoulders exposed versus Kat’s booties, earrings and (newly) blonde flowing locks. Both ladies wore it well, but I prefer Miley’s more punk approach and more simple approach to accessorizing.
What are your thoughts, readers? Do you prefer pop-gone-punk princess Miley’s version or Vampy Kat’s?
The BET Awards went down in LA last night with some major performances by Justin Timberlake, Ciara, Nikki Minaj, 2 Chainz and more. Unfortunately Drake bailed at the last moment and later tweeted that he was finishing up his new album to be dropped September 17 (Wooohooooo!) and spending time with his family. We’ll forgive you this time pookie. Not that they were scheduled to appear, but I missed the shining faces of the Carters (Beyoncé, Shawn and Wayne) and Rih Rih who was actually tied for the most nominations of the evening. While the awards show and performances certainly proved entertaining my attention was riveted to the pre-show red carpet. There were some hits and some misses and a whole lot of in between. But the mediocre don’t often prove news worthy and in display of positivity I’m only going to focus on those at the fabulous end of the spectrum, leaving the worst dressed lists to numerous other bloggers out there. Here we goooo…..!!!!
Pharell looking dapper as ever!
This look is actually subdued for Miss Minaj, minus the major display of boobage. A gorgeous dress and look for the Best Female Rapper award winner.
I do like this Versace dress on Amber Rose, but am mostly including these two because I love them and I love their love! They’re so complimentary to one another. And how interesting that Amber Rose covered up her tats for the occasion! Wiz made up for it with his copious body art.
Nelly looked slick in his casual grey on grey.
Adrienne Bailon wore her uniform to the awards show last night. Bun, goddess dress, a bath of bronzer. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I do love the way her turquoise ring ties into the stones of her heels and compliments the coral of the dress beautifully.
Bridget Kelly in Maria Lucia Hohan. It’s not easy to pull off Chartreuse but Miss Kelly gets it right. This was one of the more glamorous looks of the evening.
Justin Timberlake lookin’ fresh and clean!!
Jamie Foxx kept it crisp in all white and got political with his Trayvon Martin tee. Respect.
Jay Ellis brought his mom along as his date for the awards show and they were looking white hot! Dying over his fresh summer suit…Crispy!!
Janelle Monae in the color of the night. I’m digging the embellishment at her collar.
Meagan Good…I’m not sure if it’s her dress I’m loving or her body. Probably a little of one and a lot of the other…literally!!
Naya Rivera in my favorite look of the night! Obviously the reason Big Sean is wearing a white tee is because he didn’t want to overpower his girl…right?
Overall, the best dressed dude is Pharrell. It wasn’t even a competition. And for the ladies…Naya Rivera takes the cake! Maybe next time her date will take a cue from Billionaire Boy Pharrell, who is 40 years old, by the way. He doesn’t look a day over 27!
Until next time beauties; peace and power!
Rihanna’s design collaboration with British high street brand River Island showed last night in London. The British Fashion Council claimed that Rihanna was not part of the official London Fashion Week line up, and her show was held off-site of the official event. Fashion critics and UK news publications are ripping Rih’s collection a new one, calling it “horrendous” “uninspired” “slutty” and “A fright night in K-Mart”. ouch
I will leave the slander to the pros and simply say that I find the collection quite lackluster and yes, uninspired. I feel that this poor showing stems from a lack of actual hands-on effort and creativity from the superstar herself. In short, her potential much outweighs her product. According to sources, Rih didn’t have much to do with designing the line at all, but contributed most of her input to co-designer Adam Selman via phone-calls and video-chats. But, in a Vogue UK interview with Selman, he had the following to say regarding their collaboration:
This collection is very based upon Ri’s style and her mood – so it’s evolved a lot. There were things that she couldn’t find in the shops – for example simple, black, beautiful dresses, so she created her own. She was really interested in how things sit on the models and how they’re cut. This all comes from her – it’s very personal. She’s at the top of her game right now in terms of her career and in herself. She’s in a really good place.
Rihanna and co-designer Adam Selman
Below are some looks from the collection, straight from the runway.
I appreciate some of the more covered up looks and the minimalism of their design. The entire collection has a markedly 90’s feel from the designs to the hair and makeup to the curvier models. I like the unusual degree of diversity among the model line-up as well.
What do you guys think?
Shop the reasonably priced collection at River Island starting March 5th. Peace.
