Valentino Spring/Summer 2013

Fresh off a fashionably hectic and crazy weekend, what better way start off humdrum Monday than with a Valentino SS 2013 recap?  I first fell in love with the Italian empire and the legend himself when I watched the documentary, Valentino The Last Emporer.  It’s a fascinating film documenting the final season that Valentino  served as the Creative Director for his namesake brand.

Valentino is known for classic, elegant, intricately feminine clothing with a marked Italian craftsmanship.  This season’s show hit the mark with delicate lace, detailed beading, classic lines and of course, the signature red gowns.  Below are ten of my favorite looks from the show.  It was not easy to narrow down my options, believe me.

Makeup and hair was simple, presumably as to not overpower the intricate gowns.

Maria Grazi Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli have been serving as co-designers for the fashion house since Valentino’s retirement five years ago.  He must approve of their upholding aesthetic since at the end of the SS2013 show he congratulated them both with hugs and kisses.  Bravo!!
